Florida GOP Rep. Anna Paulina Luna is forging forward with a resolution to expel Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) from Congress, a move that could spark a sweeping purge of scandal-ridden lawmakers on both sides of the aisle."

"It's going to be introduced by close of business today. I've publicly called for Swalwell to resign," Luna told Sources Say News in an interview on Monday. "He still hasn't done that. I was hoping that he had a sliver of dignity, which he does not, so we'll be going to vote for expulsion."

The San Francisco Chronicle and CNN reported allegations from at least four women against Swalwell, including a former staffer who accused him of sexually assaulting her on two occasions when she was too intoxicated to consent. Two other women alleged he sent them unsolicited explicit photos, and one woman said he kissed her without consent in public. Swalwell — who was previously seen as the frontrunner in the California gubernatorial race — has denied the allegations as "false and outrageous."

While the California Democrat has denied the sexual assault allegations, he apologized to his wife in his denial video for unspecified mistakes.

Swalwell announced Sunday that he is suspending his gubernatorial campaign.

Luna argued there is a double standard in lawmakers calling on candidates running for higher office to drop out of their races while allowing them to remain in Congress.

"He can’t represent California, but he can represent federally? That makes no sense," she continued. "It is unacceptable for him to just end his campaign for governor in California, but still sit in the House of Representatives."

Luna's resolution may be just the opening move in what multiple sources said could become an unprecedented wave of expulsion votes. In addition to the Swalwell, a Democratic lawmaker is expected to introduce a resolution to expel GOP Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas). Votes to expel Reps. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) and Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Fla.) could also follow.

Luna noted the balance of power would not be impacted due to the even number of Democrats and Republicans under fire over scandals.

Gonzales has faced staunch bipartisan backlash over allegations he pressured his late staffer into an affair. Text messages obtained by Sources Say News in February show the Texas Republican asked his former staff director about her sexual preferences and positions in addition to requesting photos from her, which she repeatedly pushed back on. The staffer, Regina Santos-Aviles, later died by suicide after setting herself on fire in September 2025.

Gonzales acknowledged the affair on a podcast in March, calling it "a mistake" and "a lapse in judgment," saying he had "reconciled" with his wife. He ultimately dropped his reelection bid but remains in office. A second staffer later came forward describing similar advances, the San Antonio Express first reported.

Mills  is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee over allegations of sexual misconduct, dating violence and campaign finance violations. A former girlfriend obtained a restraining order against him and he faces separate allegations of soliciting prostitutes while abroad on a trip to evacuate Americans out of Afghanistan.

Cherfilus-McCormick was recently found guilty by the House Ethics Committee of violating 25 House rules and faces federal charges of stealing $5 million in FEMA funds, with a full sanctions hearing scheduled for April 21, with lawmakers stating expulsion is not off the table.

"I think that this is going to trigger other motions. And you know what? Bring it. It's time. This is way overdue,” Luna said. “This is not rocket science. This is basic 101. Let's not tolerate public corruption in the House of Representatives. Most people go to jail over this."

A GOP leadership staffer told Sources Say News that votes on Swalwell and Gonzales could happen as soon as Wednesday or Thursday. Expulsion requires a two-thirds majority to pass.
