Remember when Trump said there was “zero chance” he’d replace Susie Wiles? That was three weeks ago!

Trump announced on Truth Social Friday that Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller will take over as White House chief of staff starting Monday, Nov. 9. Wiles is moving over to Trump’s political operation.

Wiles confirmed it on X, saying Friday is her last day. She called the job “the honor of a lifetime” and pointed to border security, tax cuts and the economy as wins.

If this feels like déjà vu, that’s because Politico reported last month that Trump was calling allies to ask whether it was time to replace Wiles, with Miller on the short list. Trump was not having it at the time. “TOTAL FAKE NEWS,” he told Politico, calling Wiles “my loyal and longest serving Chief of Staff.” A day later, he told reporters on the South Lawn there was “zero chance” he’d replace her and that she’d be around “for a long time.”

Turns out “a long time” was about three weeks.

“Huge CONGRATS to @StephenM — a true patriot and America First fighter. He never backs down — and the @DeptofWar is right there with him,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted on X.

Not all Republicans are thrilled about the promotion, though. “Yuk,” one lawmaker told us.

Before the news broke, another GOP lawmaker told us Thursday they blamed Miller’s border policies for the party’s losses on Tuesday, referring to him as “the prince of darkness.”

“After my surprise, my first thought was the President doesn’t plan to back down the next two years,” another lawmaker said.

“Let’s double down on stupid,” a senior GOP member told us. (Yes, we’ve heard that one a lot this week.)

“Fucking idiot,” another member added.

“Buckle the fuck up. Things are about to get wild,” a Republican operative said.

The Miller move appears to have only sharpened the Democratic appetite for investigations.

“Lawyer up,” likely-soon-to-be House Oversight Chairman Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) posted on X.
